ATTENTION ALL HEROS!

This only applies to members of Team Evil who have a hero in the SG "The Patrol". We plan to clean house as it were, removing any heros who have not logged on in the past 90 days or longer. Coming Febuary, we plan to re-activate and do a recruiting drive, thus the reason for the removal of inactive members. If you see any Patrol member on, please pass the word to login if you want to keep your membership.

Mercy Island Photo Hunt

I'm going to be away visiting family for the holidays from the 22nd through the 29th or so, so I thought I'd leave you all with something to keep you busy in the meantime. Really, I figure that Mav will go nuts trying to find these and everybody else will enjoy listening to him curse on SG chat, but hey -- it's still entertainment.

I've posted 10 screenshots below. All were taken on Mercy Island. Your job is to find the exact locations and, in the comments to this post, post a link to a screenshot of your character standing there. (ImageShack has free image hosting.) Your screenshots should show both your character and enough of the surrounding scenery that I can verify that you've found the correct spot.

To keep this interesting, I'm offering a 50k infamy prize to the first person who finds each location. (So, 500k total prize money is up for grabs.) You do not have to find all locations in order to win a prize. If you want to play but not claim a prize, please post that your entry is non-competing. All competing entries must be submitted by 12:01 AM EST, January 16th.

Team Evil 4 t3h w1n!

We're currently #6 in the most prestigious SGs (hero or villain) on Pinnacle. #1 is currently very secure, #2 and #3 are contesting each other, #4-7 are all within 500k, and #8 is a good 600k below #7. Here are the top 7 groups:

  1. Jagged Legion (10,016,097) -- Pinnacle's most prominant and controversal group from way back. No surprise here, especially since they decided to focus on their heroes instead of migrating over to CoV.

  2. World Wide Evil, Inc. (6,673,685) -- Tazz's VG, and one of our coalition partners. Grabbed a lot of the veteran ex-heroes from Pinnacle.

  3. The Twilight Avengers (6,572,474) -- Think Jagged Legion, but from Guardian server. Moved settled on Pinnacle as a villain group mainly to contend with JL.

  4. The Establishment (4,860,890) -- Friggin' Taser's villain group. The darker, evil side of Carl and Sons.

  5. -- The Impossibles -- (4,484,043) -- One of the established hero groups on Pinnacle. Don't know too much about them, but they've been around for a while.

  6. Team Evil (4,342,259) -- Us! If you don't know us by now, you will never, never know us...

  7. Descended (4,320,698) -- No clue who these people are.

If we were really serious about it we'd make those alt-a-holics switch their characters in and out. But, considering that we don't have anything functional to add to the base and that I don't think we're planning on trying to defend an IoP, slow growth to a more decorative base is okay with me.

I fully expect group #7 to overtake us over the holidays if they haven't already -- they were pretty close last I checked.

IOP = Item of Power.

To gain an item of power, you base must have a vault with an available IOP base, at least 6 dimensional anchors (1 per room), and one or 2 other things (i think).

To get an IOP, you must complete a trial. This trial is available for 5 days, then not available for 55. Durring those 5 days, you can get up to 5 of each type of IOP. They only increase stats by 1%, for a possible 5% increase. Durring the 55 day period, you must protect your base from raiders (trying to steal your IOP). Durring this, stuff can be destroyed. At the end of the 55 days, regardless of if you have kept your IOP or not, ALL IOPs are lost (returned to the trial).

Basically, IMO, the risk DEFINITLY outweighs the reward. Only 5 days every 2 months that you can get some (barring raids). They only BARELY begin to up your stats. You have to defend your base against other teams, and possibly lose items that you worked so hard to get. Then, to top it all off, after all that work, you are going to lose it anyway. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

12/21/2005 12:50:00 PM
Blogger Palcioz said...

That basically parallels my analysis, OC. For those of you interested in participating in base raids, I suspect that WWE would be happy to allow us to instant-raid their base so they can practice defending. (Instant raids are the arena version of base raids -- nothing everything is restored to its original state afterwards.)

Unless we want to give up one of our PvE teleporters, we're pretty far (as in needing another one or two million prestige) from having an IoP-ready base anyway.

12/21/2005 05:49:00 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Yeah, top 5 would be awesome, but I think it's awesome that in all of Pinnacle, we're even in the top 10! :)

12/22/2005 06:42:00 PM
Blogger Palcioz said...

If you want to get into and stay in the top 5, we'd have to either all become a lot more serious and hardcore about this game (which I don't think is really something we want to require), we'll have to do a lot more character and alt shuffling (which is kind of a pain), or we have to move out a lot of the more inactive characters and start recruiting more heavily (something I'm not so hot at). Or we could just be happy with the prestige earnings that we have. I'd tend to go with the last option, but if anybody wants to get one of the other three going, I'd be willing to work with you on it.

Hidden Evil Report

We had 4-5 stalkers on for a couple of hours worth of missions. Things went pretty well with defeats only when we were ambushed or tried something definitely over our heads.

Official Hidden Evil stalker level is 12. Feel free to play your stalkers up that high outside of official teams.

Any feedback as to when the next stalker night should be? It seems that tonight wasn't actually that great for a lot of people, but I didn't get that much feedback on the last Hidden Evil scheduling post.

Bring your level 10ish stalkers for some all-stalker groupage. Now that we're 10, we can LK as needed. If more than 8 show up, we'll split teams according to levels.

Holiday Event!

A few notes:

1) The holiday contact you want to speak to has been added to your list of contacts.

2) The ferries are really screwed up. Use the base teleporters or helos if you're having trouble.

3) There are fun presents involved, but so far no inspiration presents like last year.

4) So far, only one new part has been added today. Hopefully the next part will be more involved.

5) No combat is actually necessary.

Salvage Drops

Well, after some searching, I found a list of salvage drops. I then took this list and made it prettier and fixed some of the info on it. It at least lets us know who to target when I'm begging for a specific salvage type.

Well, I wish they hadn't nerfed the comics (we knew it was coming, they nerfed everything else already...). Reading that PDF is nothing like holding the actual comic. But I'm too stubborn to pay for something that we used to get for free.

Thankfully, I pass two comic book stores on my way home from work. I can at least go handle it in there.

PS - Sorry for the bleak outlook. For starters, it's a monday, and things aren't going well to boot.

Summary of Blog Changes

Unless I discover something new and nifty I can do with Blogger, I think the blog changes are done for the immediate future. Here's what I've changed:

On the right, I've removed the "Recent Posts" and replaced it with "Recent Comments". I figure that people can see the recent posts right there on the front page, and a recent comment list is useful to keep track of which posts are still active. Note that this list only keeps track of the posts currently on the main page, but those also tend to be the posts with the most activity.

I've also changed the blog so you can display comments on the main page. This is a side effect of the fact that the site now uses cookies to track the number of comments on each post. This way, the blog should reflect the number of unread comments under each post. Initially, all comments are set to unread, but you can set a post's comments to "read" by expanding/collapsing them.

Finally, I've set up a convention for tagging posts and using Blogger's search function to pick up the tags. A list of tags I've come up with is on the right -- hopefully they're pretty self-explanatory. When writing a new post, a tag template should appear in the posting box. Replace the default tag name ("misc") with the desired tag (leaving the underscores in place). Note that this appears twice -- once in the URL and once in the actual tag text. Copy/paste the tag line to add additional tags.

Because Blogger search does not pick up on edits to archived posts, earlier stuff won't show up on the tag searches. Additionally, it can take up to 24 hours for the search engine to crawl the site, so new posts won't be immediately indexed. This was the best of the category systems I found -- the better alternatives all required much more work to implement and did not extend well to a group blog like we have. (Most of them required logging in to third-party bookmarking services like del.icio.us.)

Feel free to comment on these changes or suggest anything else that might make this blog easier to use.

Next Hidden Evil at Level 9-10

Despite a few hang-ups on the snake temple room and in an escort mission, we successfully got most of the scrappers up to 9. We have a couple of add-ins at levels 10 and 11, so we're going to go ahead and set up the next all-stalker night for the 9-10 range, with the current lvl 11s also invited. In other words, feel free to play your stalkers up to level 10 on your own if you want to take them out for a spin.

I nominate next Thursday for the next Hidden Evil night, starting at 8pm EST as usual. Any opinions?

Edit: Let's aim for Friday night since Thursdays are bad for Mr. & Mrs. Mav.

Ghost Trapping Badge

Are there any mid-to-high levels interested in trapping 100 ghosts in PO? I'd like to get this badge on my new corrupter before he outlevels the contact it unlocks, and I know we have some badge hounds (to put it politely) in this SG....

Yeah, since I dinged 40 last night (YAY! GO TEAM EVIL... NEKKIDLY!), I was debating what to play. I think durring this month time, I'm going to try and get one of my stalkers and a corruptor to level 14 (so I can have a travel power).

For my corruptor, I was thinking Sonic/?. I know that WX has sonics and they rock hard.

I also plan on spending a bit of time on my dominator. I might even roll out another MM. I just couldnt sleep last nite, being jazzed about dinging (wasnt expecting to) that I almsot stayed on to play some alts. lol

12/08/2005 11:58:00 AM
Blogger Palcioz said...

Hmm, matched sonic primaries might have some nice stacking effects. I've played enough blaster/defender types to not get too excited about any one primary -- the whole question is, which secondary?

12/08/2005 01:47:00 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I was leaning towards Rad myself, so I guess my first Cor will be Sonic/Rad. I'd like to try that.

12/08/2005 05:05:00 PM
Blogger Andy said...

There is no cone/aoe disorient in sonic. There IS a cone sleep at 18 (which does decent damage, but has a longish recharge) and a single disorient (like bean bag) at 26. My sonic/elec blaster only got as far as 24, but sonic definitely has it's advantages. Soloing, the gale/cone kb power is actually pretty useful, and does almost as much damage as howl when used as a follow up to howl (due to the debuff). In groups it's not quite as useful, but still not bad - mainly because it's damage is better than gale.

As for a stalker night - sounds good to me, I'm up for a couple missions at least, assuming I can get on, which I usually can. I've also just started a new dominator that is around 7 right now (ice/thorn), would be fun to play with you guys' corruptors. Of course, I can't let a new alt sidetrack me too far from the new alt that sidetracked me from KV...

I do want to make a corruptor eventually - I'd like to do rad/something or ice/ice. Too bad I'm all out of slots on Pinn... :P

Ooo...can we get mass sonic/rads teaming together? I always wanted to put an alt in Buffer Overrun but knew I didn't have the time to commit to that.

Recent Comments Links in Sidebar

As you can hopefully see, the sidebar now contains links to the ten most recent comments to the posts on the front page of the blog. This blog is like the base -- constantly being tweaked. I have some good resources on how to implement categories for posts, so hopefully that will happen <statesman> soon </statesman>.

If anybody has other requests for features and such, feel free to ask for them. Obviously, no promises on implementation.

Edit: I'm going to be experimenting with a few category methods -- ignore anything that looks category-like for the time being, and I'll post a consolidated list of new blog features when I settle on a method.

RSS feed

For those of you who use RSS, Atom, or any of the other syndication feeds, I've set up a Feedburner Smartfeed that hopefully should be compatible with your reader. Link should be on the bottom of the sidebar, or your software may be able to automatically detect the feed on this page. Let me know if there are any problems with it.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. :)

It only supports RSS. I've been doing some research on the plugin, and apparently, it only supports RSS 0.9x current. A lot of people have been complaining that RSS 1.0 and 2.0 feeds don't work. So, it's probably just my plugin, as I'm new to RSS (haven't really had a need yet.).

Adding .xml after your shortcut (http://feeds.feedburner.com/covteamevil.xml) helped me to get it working in Sage for Firefox. It still doesn't work as well as the google news or slashdot feeds (which actually produce a folder with all the messages, updated on the fly), but I can browse the site another way now soo...yeah...I think it's a good thing.

Hmm, with the Firefox here at the office (1.0.7, no sage), I can just click on the Live bookmark icon on the status bar, subscribe to the feed, and I get the usual "folder with all the messages, updated on the fly". I'm not sure what would make your installation different.

12/06/2005 03:05:00 PM
Blogger Palcioz said...

The posted feed is currently set up as a "Smartfeed" from Feedburner that should use the user-agent string of your news reader to choose the version of RSS/Atom to publish for you. I assume the default format is the one that the original Blogger feed uses, which I think is Atom 1.0. If you want, you should be able to republish the feed through Feedburner a second time using RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3, or Atom 1.0.

I'm using firefox 1.5, they must have done away with the live bookmarks on the statusbar, because I do not have that option. It works kinda funny with sage.

Coalitions and Base Teleporters

It appears that anybody who has access to the base can now use the base teleporters. In particular, if you are on the Alt SG Hidden Evil, you can enter the main Team Evil base (due to coalition privs) and use the PvE teleporters to move from zone to zone.

Salvage, Components, and YOU!

As most of you know, I've been collecting salvage from all of you (or at least most of you). This can be a bit... involved due to the restrictions on how many of each type of salvage or component that I can carry. So, I've begun using my wife's character, Wavelength X, as a mule.

Also of note is that if you would like to convert your salvage into components, that would be fine as well. This way you can just give me the combined components and have an extra share in the building/inventing process.

Currently, we're trying to build a Mega Monitor. For this, we are short 2 Tech Hardware (can be created on the Advanced Worktable) and 1 Tech Software (can be created on the Expert Worktable). I'm sure with a bit more focused direction we can build more items in a timely fashion.

I'll keep everyone updated on the status of this item and will continue to keep everyone in the loop with what we need for our next projects.

All we need now is ONE piece of Tech Software and we'll have a mega monitor!

I know that advanced components often require the rarer salvage drops. Any recommendations as to villain groups to hunt?

Warning: Respec possibly broke again

Sooooo...it looks like they broke the level 24-33 respec again. We (me, LC & a random) made several attempts at the final room last night, here's the deal. The nav bar with vine info only displayed for one member out of our 3 member team (LC) the first time, and one member out of 4 the second time. Both times it was the same person, and not the leader.

Then, to make it worse (this is where the broke comes in), at one point his counter just went away, like it does when you finish the vines part. However, we still could not damage the AV, so the vines part had not been completed. On the bright side, we did make it all the way to the vines with the difficulty set on vicious the first time before we realized we couldn't hurt the AV very much (he was actually taking damage then though, so this bug is not 100%) and had to restart at villainous.

We wasted a while trying to kill all the vines without a counter, and then checking on the AV then eventually gave up in disgust. So, this is your heads up, attempt the trial at your own risk.

Edit: I have no idea why this appears underlined, it is does not in the post preview...

Edit by Palcioz: Fixed the underlines.

Intro Email for New Members

Hey, all. I think it'd be a good idea to put together an intro email for new members (and even current ones) pointing them to the blog and spelling out some of the more important things about the group. I'd type a copy into the game, then forward a copy to each member of the group. When you recruit somebody, you can then just forward it on to them. Here's what I've come up with:

Subject: Welcome to Team Evil!

Hi! We're glad you decided to join us in the fight for oppression and injustice. This is a form email we send out to all new members with some information about our group. Sorry for the poor line breaks, but the client email system doesn't handle them well -- a better formatted copy can be found on the group blog.

The group blog is located at http://covteamevil.blogspot.com. All event info will be posted there. Additionally, our group policies are up at that location, so please check them out when you get a chance.

All new members are on a one week probationary period. We ask that you play your character enough during this week for us to get to know you and you to get to know us. After the week is up, you will be promoted to a full member (Slacker rank), and you are expected to play your character at least once every 45 days or be removed for inactivity.

The promotions beyond Slacker are outlined in the group policies. Higher ranks are expected to play their characters at least once every 15 days or be demoted.

While playing in SG mode, you will earn prestige for the group, which is used to build our base. There is no penalty for playing in SG mode until level 25, so we ask all members to activate SG mode from levels 1-24. Playing in SG mode at 25+ is encouraged but not required.

We currently have a 3-characters-per-player limit on the main group, although due to size constraints we're asking people to voluntarily move alts into the alt group "Hidden Evil". Any number of alts can be added to the alt group. Alts should be registered on the blog by replying to the "List of Alts" post. Feel free to contact any of the higher ranks to add your alts to our group.

Feel free to contact an Evil Genius or Enforcer if you ever have any questions or concerns about the group.

Any thoughts?

Everybody should have a copy of this by now. If you don't, drop me an in-game email and I'll forward one to you.

Silver Mantis SF

I hear that this takes anywhere between 2 and 4 hours to complete. Since OC says he won't be on tomorrow, let's go ahead and aim to start this at 7:30/8:00 eastern time tomorrow (Thursday).

Edit: Level range for this SF is 20-25, although 25+ can participate auto-exemplared. Minimum number is 4, which is good since if we get more than 8 people interested, we can easily split into multiple SFs.

Sorry, should have included the level ranges in the main post. Your new dominator unfortunately is too low level unless you manage to get 8 more between now and tonight.

Too early for me, but I might take a stab at it after you guys finish (I think I have 2 more contact missions I need to finish before I outlevel him then I'm good).

Sorry, Lobster, you didn't reply to the earlier post where we were discussing possible times. How much later would it be for you to come?

You know me my schedule is never as fixed as my anal retentive nature would prefer...don't worry about me for this time, like I said I may run a later one after you guys finish. I might also take a swing tomorrow.

I usually only check the blog btw. 8 & 5 pacific, otherwise I'm playing if I can be or unavailable.
