i11 stuff and junk

Tags: misc_

Hah, no one has posted anything since my i9 post and now i11 is due? NICE!

I've been back semi-casual-regular for the last week, and have finally managed to *drumroll* a) get my 1st villain to 50 and b) get a second alt to 50. Same char of course.

Anyway, I'll be around - most likely hero-side pinnacle, with some villain-side on champion.

Hellgate:London comes out this week though, so I'll be doing that for a while, hopefully i11 gives me at least a month of that before it drops.

Happy Halloween to whomever is still out there!

I9 stuff and junk

I, for one, am really enjoying I9. I've wasted the time (it seems to take 1-2 hours per character) to fully deck out 5 or 6 chars in IOs now, and boy is it worth it efficiency wise. Quick advice: If you're not rich, screw the set bonuses, just got for combining the dual & triple aspect set IOs to maximize your powers - for most you can get 9 slots worth. I usually wind up with 95 dmg, 60% end, 60% acc, 60% recharge.

I've seen a few of you on recently, but haven't managed to connect much. I talked a little with Stagger, and we're going to shoot for trying an STF this weekend, Saturday night I think. Probably after 9pm PST. Nothing written in stone, because my schedule is dictated by the pregnant wife currently, but somewhere around there would be nice. I'll have my 47 fire/ff, recently respecced for vengeance & he's got Helper Monkey. So that's the support...we just need the rest :).

Inventions / Storage

I just updated the base with the personal invention salvage storage access point (that's a mouthful) and a few inventing stations. Unfortunately, the inventing stations count as worktables and couldn't be placed in the main workshop by the cafe/lounge. I stuffed two stations into the first empty apartment next to the salvage storage room. The vault is in the storage area along with a third inventing station.

Nooo! That was the floor where my pile of alts slept ;).

Man, I wish server transfers were in so I could move out some of my old chars and get chars I actually want to play on Pinn. I don't think there's a single villain there I want to take to 50.

Maybe the nec/dark or elec/elec (still no fix for chain induction!?!?!?!?!?!?), we'll see.

Well, once I get Xtreme to 50 (closing in on 46 now) and finish getting the Memorization badges on Mav (only a few left), I'll be spending some time with OC to get some Inf so I can get the memorization badges on him as well.

Issue 9

Dont know if anyone is interested in I9 but I think if the SG is going to get active again that we should try to distribute the recipe memorization so that diff people can make different IO's (ie: One person learns damage, one heal ... etc...)

Random invite

I was talking with Trin about this the other day, so thought I'd extend the invite to others as well. I put up a little post on my Coh blog with the invite, if anyone ever feels like it, to making a theme build/char, to merge with two of my theme/bot teams.

Short version:
Infinity, hero side, science family heroes - all controller containment exploiting team. Would like a fire/ff and a fire/kin at least.
Protector, villain side: swarm of untouchable undead - all nec/ffs with assault.

Long version.

I did. Even though I've been here since the US CoH Beta, I had a month or two without the game, so I only have the 27 months instead of 30 available. I've NEVER liked the "trenchcoats", as I don't think they look enough like trenchcoats to be called that. The wings are ok, but just not my cup of tea. The new costume options are ok. But the powers and costume tokens, as well as the new badges are what I enjoy most.

Ahh, so OC likes the new badges the most. Why am I not surprised? :)

Me, I haven't had much time to play (trying to get a paper published at the moment), so I stick to live when I do get to be online.

You will see them in your inherant list, but only after you have clicked the redeem button on that "badge" in the Veterans tab of you badge listing.

So far they are a pretty mixed bag for me.

The axe/sands will be handy in general I think, esp for news.

The samurai costume is actually better than I thought, and bodes well for costume pieces in the future - stuff on legs, etc.

Wings are a great start, and do very well for flyers. Need work for those silly jumpers who want wings though, and need more and more sizes of course.

Trenchoats are kinda dumb, they are just a jacket plus an ass-cape. Entirely too billowy for my tastes. The shoulder cape is incredibly dumb, but I'm sure someone will find a use for it.

The other costume stuff is just icing, nothing sucks but nothing is actually "cool".

I am looking forward to my nemesis staff in January or whenever though!

Mostly I'm just excited about not having to do the whole hero-side shitty run EVERYFUCKINGWHERE for the contacts EVER again. Man, I had this contact at lvl 13 on my scrap that had me run from Steel to like 3 zones away 2 or 3 times in a row. SUCK!

Hello police radio!

OMG, that was funny. "DONT AGGRO THE CAMBOZOLA!" I feel the same way, but many things have happened to me. Just last Friday, the one before halloween, i was driving my Nitro truck when i blew my engine. I wish i had picks, but the whole inside was chipped up, the bearings were trashed and the crank shaft was bent. So i sent out the motors, waiting for the new, and with christmas coming in saving like hell to buy gifts. along with that, school hasn't been the same and i kind of been boating and designing all of these lego projects, but i miss all you guys. really i do. oh and plus all of the sweet sixteen parties have been coming up, so im screwed there. OH AND I HATE PLAN AND PSAT TESTS! my friend who goes to a public school, takes them during the school day, ME?! no i have to take them on a saturday. no sleeping in there. well, miss you all.

Nice to see everyone still existing and all that - I was on for a few weeks where I was pretty much the only one on. I've been hero side lately, when I'm on, working on my kat/inv scrapper.

Then I got sidetracked by the new Guild Wars expansion (Nightfall), which is actually really good pretty much all around - at least it's got me a lot more hooked than the original game ever did. I even picked up the in-between xpack just for completeness. No monthly fees rock.

BUT I shall be back to CoV, I don't think I could leave just yet...I10 will be out next year!

Holloween Event

Hey everyone. They Holloween Event starts today. I'd like to ask a small favor. If anyone has any extra Event Salvage (Back Alley Brawler Gloves, Statesman Mask, Lord Recluce Helmet, or Hamidon Costume), I'm trying to collect some extra for my brothers who are not currently able to play because their accounts are down. If you could meet me in-game, or just drop it off in the base (Team Evil or Patrol for villains or heroes), I would really appreciate it!

PC, of course. I've never owned a console in my life, and until consoles can typeset LaTeX documents, I don't really have an excuse to own one. Besides, most of my favorite game genres tend to play rather poorly on consoles....

If you saw what my hacked xbox can do you might change your mind...it's actually worth $250 for a used xbox, new hard drive, and to pay modder to fix you up (or you can do it yourself and save $50)...

Yes, I too have LSW2. My wife thinks it's cute and vowed to play it some day. We shall see.

Blogger Palcioz said...

I've seen a hacked Xbox...my brother-in-law has one that I pulled two consecutive all-nighters finishing the original Halo and Crimson Skies. Yeah, they were fun, but I'm more of a strategy and RPG gamer -- strategy games on computers are miles ahead of consoles, and console RPGs tend to be more Japanese-style than American-style.

9/29/2006 10:48:00 AM
Blogger Andy said...

I actually originally got it so I could play old SRPGS! Dark Wizard for the Sega CD, Warsong & Shining Force 1/2 for the genesis. Ogre Battle for the SNES, Tactics Ogre (PS1 or N64 I forget), and maybe I'll get around to getting a Saturn emu set up so I can play Shining Force 3.

As a bonus, someone did a japanese->english translation hack for Warsong 2 and I've just about finished playing through that.

I'm right there with you man - strat & rpgs are where I usually am, although less focus on RPGs these days they take way too long. I have a special place in my heart for console style SRPGs though. My list in the first paragraph has the best ones IMHO (never got that into FF Tactics).

PCs in general actually seemed pretty much miss the SRPG phenomenae (sp?), except for wierd exceptions like Warcraft 3 (sorta, heroes had like 5levels...) and Rise of Legends (same deal basically).

9/30/2006 04:16:00 PM
Blogger Palcioz said...

I tend to go for the pure strategy or RPG over the hybrids -- I just enjoy both genres. SRPGs tend to fall into one of three categories: you're stuck micromanaging a huge number of customizable units, there are relatively few powerful customizable units that basically stomp over all the normal units, or the relatively few customizable units aren't sufficiently more powerful than regular units to be worth all the headaches of accumulating experience. SRPGs tend to mostly be strategy games with experience points and inventory grafted on -- they're fine as strategy games, but I think they kind of miss the point of the RPG genre.

SRPGs seem to be much more in the style of Square-Enix than Black Isle Studios and Bioware, and I'd take Fallout over FFVII any day.

Viridian badge hunt

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:30 pm eastern, Omicron Cypher and I will be going for the Infiltrator, Tank Buster, and Tracer badges, which are the three required to unlock Viridian. We'll get Infiltrator (Paragon Protectors) by farming one of Bray's Crey missions (~20 PPs per reset, assuming a full team), and the other two will probably be through street hunting in St. Martial.

Ice Mistral SF?

Okay, I'm getting a bit tired of pick-up groups and soloing. Who's up for Ice Mistral? The SF is levels 35-40 (for experience, 41+ will be auto-malefactored), and the Crystal Keeper badge is required for the Megalomaniac accolade.

I nominate next Friday at 8pm eastern, but I'm flexible in that regard. The wife will be out of town next weekend, so I'll be available just about anytime.

Anybody interested?

Private apartments

Since we have exactly 4 active Evil Geniuses (Omicron Cypher, Burning Bush, Voltaic Bot, and me) and 1 active Enforcer (Mie), it seems logical to give the 5 private apartments in the base to them. It also makes base editting permissions easy to assign. If/when we have enough prestige to upgrade the plot again, we'll have room for more personal space -- this will require approximately another 3 million prestige, though.

I've claimed the 2nd room, and OC claimed the last one. I put a big lateral file in the doorway to OC's room to mark it off, and mine is already decorated. Feel free to claim any of the empty rooms.

Here are four basic guidelines that will prevent a lot of headaches later: (In more blunt terms, how to not screw up other parts of the base.)
  • Please don't change the lighting or wall/ceiling/trim styles -- they apply to the entire room, not just your apartment. If you want more light in your room, add lights -- I recommend the Tech 2 lights, the torches, or the Shoji lamps. If you don't like the trim, you can put small items on the walls to force it to hide. Whoever gets the first room will almost definitely want to do this, as the ceiling trim was chosen for the storage area, not the apartment area.

  • Please don't use the SG banners. Each banner that has something other than the TE logo can only be used once, or else it will revert all other banners of that type back to the TE logo. Basically, it's very easy to screw up the main atrium or the oversight room by using banners, and they don't really fit anyway.

  • Please don't spend more than 30k prestige on your room -- I doubt that you'll use that much, since most decorative items only cost 100 prestige each, but we currently have about 120k in the bank, and it'd be good to split it evenly to start. For an idea on how much 30k will buy you, the furnishings in my room cost 5400 prestige (not including the pillars).

  • Please don't add any functional items. If you think that the base needs more of some particular functional item, tell me, and I'll stick it somewhere in the public areas. Basically, anything under the "arcane" tab or to the right of it is decorative, anything to the left of the "arcane" tab is functional. Ironically, anything you can craft and add via "Add personal item" is also a functional item, so you can just ignore the whole crafting thing.

If any of you have questions about how to use the editor, feel free to ask.

Civic Squad

Bray recently picked up the Civic Squad mission, which I'd also like to do with a large team. It's a level 44 mission (boostable to 46, of course), though, so I'm not sure how many of you have characters in that level range -- getting enough mentors for LK/Mal might be difficult. Any interest?

Invite the Center

Okay, Pal has the last two missions of Viridian's arc, and while I could (probably) solo them, it'd be much more fun to get a big team together. For those who aren't familiar with these, the first one consists of being ambushed by every single Council AV in the game (in sequence, not all at the same time). The second's supposed to be even more fun.

So, who's in? I'm free just about anytime this weekend, so I propose tomorrow at 8pm eastern. Since I'm sure this will be more fun with a big team, I'll plan to fill the group out with pick-ups once we've got the TE people on board.

Missions are at level 50, lower levels are welcome assuming we have the mentors for it.

Blinkie Finder

After teaming with Bal on two missions that I could only see about a dozen of the guys on (total), we got to talking about Blinkie Finder. This is a utility that I've been using for a while and told Bal I'd post a link to.

Basically, I've created two binds, very similar to the instructions on the website.

F11 (/bind f11 "demorecord demo")
F12 (/bind f12 "demostop")

I just tap those buttons, and away I go!

Huh, this reminds me of whatever program I set up a linux box for to monitor Everquest with. It was some kind of packet sniffer thing and determined where everything on your current map was. Very handy for that jboots camp in Ro... :) :). Of course, the fact that it still took me like 70 consecutive to get the fucking things!!! Horrible, hateful game.

Anyway, my point was that wound up getting some people banned eventually. I wonder if this will do the same? Or at least get the function of the demorecorder drastically weakened?

In the meantime, I'm sure I'll try it out!

Well, it has been around since January I believe. And it just reads the text file. Something like ParagonMaps or even CIT would get banned quicker I would think because we're actually using graphics from the pigg files. But I've been using the Blinkie Finder for a while. Love it!

Base Update and Personal Appartments

The base is now mostly-decorated, with only the main teleport chamber left to do. (I'm actually a bit at a loss what to do with it -- there's not really room spacially or thematically to make part of the room another social area, so I'll probably end up just throwing a few desks and LCDs in the room and calling it a day.

The base was redesigned for easy navigation, unlike the previous base, where the teleporters were pushed into the back corner rather far away from the entry. From the entrance, you should turn left for the teleporters and control room and straight for the med bay and inspiration storage. Directly past the med bay is the empowerment station (all buffs are available from the most advanced version, so we don't need the other 2) and the enhancement storage. Our secondary salvage storage is in the basement by the empowerment station -- there's a (much) larger storage room in the back-right corner of the base. Along the right side of the base are various decorative rooms, including a meeting/ceremony hall with banners from our allies (and enemies) and a ballroom/meeting room with an open bar and custom wood floor. Also along the right side of the base is the "CuppaJo Cafe", lounge area, and workshop.

One nice bonus of having extra room is that we have room for 5 2x1 apartments in the back of the base. I was thinking that it'd be cool to divvy them up among the members (either by rank, by prestige earnings, by seniority, or something else), although we'd have to figure something out with the editting permissions to allow people to personalize their space. Any suggestions on how to do all of this? Alternatively, if this would just be a big can of worms, I can just convert them into generic apartments not specifically claimed by anybody or rip out the apartments entirely in favor of more open communal space (although I'm at a loss as to what else to install). To keep with the base design, the "owners" wouldn't be able to adjust the floor/ceiling heights, wall styles, or main room lighting, and they'd be limitted to adding non-functional decorative items, plus no banners (mainly because the banners are in a delicate state in order to maintain our grand hall). However, you can do quite a bit with just the basic decorative times. Any thoughts?

On a side note, I'm temporarily removing the "secret club" beyond the basement to ensure that we can make our rent this week. Any prestige earned beyond our next rent payment will go towards reinstalling that room.

Wow, crazy, last I checked we had a ton of prestige from that double xp/prestige weekend. Is rent that expensive or did we get a bunch of upgrades?

I'm for either way. Randoms appts or personals. If its personals, maybe we could do something fun like have an arena battle off for them if there are more senior members than slots?

Not that I'd win a pvp battle, but it would be fun. :)

Upgrades. We're now on the 12x12 plot (3rd one), and sufficient rooms to fill the whole thing out. Rent was just under 200k, and we should be paid up until around mid-October.

Saw a pretty awesome teleporter room. The colors leave some to be desired, but I do like the overall layout.

What exactly do you mean by that tech..I have to admit I'm intrigued.

Are you like..swimming like mad after a boat that has got something really important on it - or maybe just saving up to buy one?

Oh, and I burned myself out on CoX lately, so I've been working on a website & playing a little Titan's Quest to kill the time.

Lately I've been popping in and out on my 34 ice/ss tank though, he's a blast.

The website I was/am working on is heartsparktheory.com. Don't judge me too harshly mr. Professional Web DesignerMav ;)!

Nevermind the fact that it took me 4 hours to make the buttons!

I've been off and on on my 34 tank hero side a bit lately, but I rarely seem to catch people.

Well, let me say that no I was not swimming after a boat like mad. I was in the market for one. Got a good deal for it and i have decided to name it "Serenity" The name sounds pretty good.

Annihilator Badge and the RSF

I'm not sure when I'll have time to seriously tackle an entire RSF, but I know that OC at least really wants the Master of Olympus and (more importantly) Annihilator badges. I think Capio might have missed out on that one, too, last week...

What do people think about running at least the first 3 missions of the RSF Saturday around 4pmish EDT? I was thinking that we could open it up to the public as an "Annihilator without having to do the whole RSF" kind of thing....

Anyway, if people are interested, please post here. I'll see how many we get by Thursday or so, then post on the Pinnacle forum to fill out the team. The goal here would be to complete the first three missions to get the Annihilator badge -- I should have more time to make a real effort at this SF the following weekend, if people are interested.

Edit: Okay, I'm posting on the Pinnacle forum that we have at least four available slots this Saturday. The team is me, OC (probably), Capio, and we have room for one more. If we end up with more than four TE people, they can have Palcioz's spot (since he already has the badges).

I'd LOVE that. But as soon as I commit, my wife will change my plans. So, in summation, I PLAN to be there, but what will actually happen could be quite different =]

My internet has been down at home for the last 3 days. The people at the new Comcast monopoly are fucking idiots! ARGGHHHH!!!

I love it when they tell you 24-72 hours for a 5 minute fix. And they've managed to completely separate the helpdesk people from any responsibility as well - none of them can get ahold of anyone else. It's the perfect system!

Internet problems suck...I just had to exchange my cable modem for a working one this afternoon. Fortunately, everything seems to be humming along nicely now.

Planning to come with us on Saturday, Lobster?
